The Haven of Transylvania County is pleased to announce that we will begin an expansion of our facilities shortly, thanks to major funding by The Cannon Foundation in response to the ever-increasing need for services. The goal of this project is to:
Create a meeting space to enable private guest-staff interactions, group mental health sessions, life coaching, training, and staff development
Enable guest intakes to be confidential, so those in crisis can be more honest and open with case managers, leading to better outcomes
Build a dedicated staff restroom, opening up additional restroom space for Haven Family House guests, and reducing the risk of the spread of illness to staff We need additional funds to complete the project, and we welcome community support. Donations may be sent to:
The Haven of Transylvania County Post Office Box 25 Brevard, NC 28712
Please indicate on your check if your donation should be designated for the Expansion Project or our General Fund, which funds our operations.
Our mission: “The Haven shall assist families and individuals in crisis in Transylvania County by providing safe temporary refuge in a clean, comfortable shelter.” We provide respite for those who have suddenly or unexpectedly fallen into homelessness or those who may be chronically homeless. The Haven is a safe, secure place where people can be helped to get back onto their feet.
The Haven Thomas House operates as an 18 bed overnight shelter to
temporarily house single adults that are experiencing homelessness. The co-ed facility has an open dorm room style layout that houses men on one side and women on the other with two corners that are fluid to the needs of our community. The open floor plan at the Haven Thomas House makes it possible for trained volunteers and professional staff to monitor activity throughout the early evening and night.
The Haven Family House
operates a four bedroom house designed to provide
a safe, secure environment for
families with children. Each family may be provided a bedroom with a shared bathroom with community kitchen, dining, and living areas.
Both shelters have laundry facilities, showers, mail service and telephone messaging services.
